The Story Behind Roll Initiative

Roll Initiative has been a dream in the making for quite some time, but it wasn't until the last few years that it truly came to life.

Before we go any further, it's important to know that this game isn't coming from a big studio or a well-known publisher. It's coming from me, Bryce, a graphic designer from the Midwest, with the help of some of my closest friends and family.

For all my fellow Midwesterners, you know better than anyone that when there's not much to do, you find a way to make your own fun, and the most memorable nights happen when you're forced to get creative. Lucky for me, that's always been my specialty. I love creating things, whether that's designing characters, planning themed game nights, getting lost in my Walter Mitty daydreams, or turning a random idea into something that brings people together. Through it all, my mission has always been to create something that sparks joy, creates memories, and brings people closer.

The idea for Roll Initiative wasn't born from a single moment. It came from a lifetime of experiences.

It came from making up games with my nephews and inventing increasingly ridiculous rules as we went. It came from finding excuses to get my friends together for one more game night. It came from arguing strategy with my overly competitive friends and debating rule interpretations like it was life or death. It came from needing a creative escape, a place to build worlds, design characters, and let my imagination run wild. Most of all, it came from a love of fantasy.

I wanted to capture the feeling of stepping away from technology for a few hours and entering a world of adventurers, taverns, goofy characters, and chaos. The kind of atmosphere where it feels like you're sitting with all your favorite people at a Renaissance Faire with a giant wooden stein in one hand and a turkey leg in the other. A place where every roll of the dice creates a new story.

Because at the end of the day, life is about the moments when you're happiest. Roll Initiative is my attempt to share those moments with you.

What I envision is for you to reunite your people and make it feel like no time has passed. Fill an evening with laughter, chaos, friendly rivalries, and the kinds of stories you'll tell for a lifetime.

I wanted to create a game that could cater to everyone around the table. The players who love strategy and depth. The players who are happy to roll some dice and chat until their next turn. The rule connoisseurs. The loophole abusers. The players who don't care who's winning as long as they can make life difficult for the person in first place.

So I asked myself: Why not create a game that brings all of that energy together?
That's exactly what Roll Initiative became.

It's a game for the competitive and the casual. For the strategists and the chaotic. A game where alliances shift in seconds, revenge is sweet, and every round creates a story worth retelling. A game where no two games play out the same way, but every round ends with people laughing around the table.

Creating Roll Initiative has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and I couldn't have done it without the friends and family who helped shape it along the way.
Now, I'm excited to finally share it with you!

Thank you for being part of this journey. I truly appreciate your support, and I hope you have as much fun playing Roll Initiative as I had creating it.
